Introduction—GATE 2027

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is the most prestigious national-level exam conducted by the IITs and IISc. GATE is an entrance examination conducted in India for admission to technical postgraduate programs. GATE is jointly conducted by IISc (Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru) and 7 IITs (IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Mumbai) on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Is there any change in GATE 2027

Yes, there are lots of changes conducted in many test papers. The syllabus changed in GATE Biotechnology (BT), Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF), Life Science (XL), Engineering Science (XE), and Humanities and Social Science (XH).

Official notification of GATE 2027 has not announced any major changes in the exam pattern so far. It is expected to follow the same pattern as the GATE exams held recently.

Marks Distribution (Most Engineering Papers)

  • General Aptitude (GA): 15 marks
  • Engineering Mathematics: 13 marks
  • Core Subject: 72 marks
  • Total: 100 marks

For papers such as AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST, XH, and XL, the distribution may differ, with 85 marks allotted to the subject section and 15 marks to general aptitude.

Marking Scheme

  • Negative marking applies only to MCQs:
    • 1-mark MCQ: −1/3 mark
    • Questions carry 1 mark or 2 marks.
    • 2-mark MCQ: −2/3 mark
  • No negative marking for MSQs and NAT questions.
